MILWAUKEE — Katin Reinhardt hit two free throws with 11.6 seconds left Tuesday night, Jalen Brunson missed a layup at the buzzer and Marquette upset top-ranked Villanova, 74-72.

The Golden Eagles (14-6, 5-3 Big East) roared back from a 17-point deficit for a season-defining victory against the Wildcats (19-2, 7-2).

Fans stormed the court at the Bradley Center for the kind of floor-stomping postgame celebration that hasn’t been seen in Milwaukee since Coach Al McGuire paced the Marquette sideline.

Marquette overcame poor free throw shooting and lackluster stretches in the first half to pull off the upset.

(18) WEST VIRGINIA 85, (2) KANSAS 69: Esa Ahmad broke out of a shooting slump with a career-high 27 points to lead West Virginia (16-4, 5-3 Big 12) over Kansas (18-2, 7-1) at Morgantown, West Virginia.

The Mountaineers beat Kansas (18-2, 7-1) for the fourth straight time in Morgantown and snapped the Jayhawks’ 18-game winning streak.

(12) VIRGINIA 71, (14) NOTRE DAME 54: London Perrantes scored 22 points and Virginia (16-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast)pulled away late at South Bend, Indiana, to beat Notre Dame (17-4, 6-2) on Tuesday night, the Cavaliers’ 10th straight victory against the Irish.

Isaiah Wilkins finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Devon Hall added 11 points and nine boards for the Cavaliers, who improved to 4-1 on the road in league play and inched a half-game closer to conference leaders Florida State and North Carolina.

(13) LOUISVILLE 106, PITTSBURGH 51: Donovan Mitchell scored a career-high 27 points, Anas Mahmoud added 14 while making all seven of his shots and visiting Louisville (17-4, 4-3 Atlantic Coast) overwhelmed Pittsburgh (12-8, 1-6).

The Cardinals rebounded from a close loss Saturday at No. 10 Florida State by handing the reeling Panthers the second-worst loss in the program’s 111-year history.

(20) PURDUE 84, MICHIGAN STATE 73: Caleb Swanigan had 25 points and 17 rebounds, helping Purdue (17-4, 6-2 Big Ten) pull away from Michigan State (12-9, 4-4) at East Lansing, Michigan.

The Boilermakers have won three straight, helping them to their best eight-game record in the conference since 2010-11.

(22) MARYLAND 67, RUTGERS 55: Melo Trimble fueled a second-half surge that put Maryland (18-2, 6-1) in control against Rutgers(12-9, 1-7) at College Park, Maryland, to remain in first place in the Big Ten.

Trimble scored 17 points and freshman Kevin Huerter had 11 for the Terrapins, who own their best record after 20 games since the 1998-99 season.

(23) SOUTH CAROLINA 98, AUBURN 69: Duane Notice tied career highs with 27 points and six 3-pointers as South Carolina (16-4, 6-1) snapped back from its first Southeastern Conference loss to put away Auburn (13-7, 3-5) at Columbia, South Carolina.

Notice had scored 22 points combined in his previous four games, but like most of his Gamecock teammates let it fly from long range early and often to open a big first-half lead over the Tigers.

WOMEN

(1) CONNECTICUT 91, EAST CAROLINA 44: Connecticut (19-0, 7-0 American Athletic) extended its NCAA-record win streak to 94 games, beating East Carolina (10-11, 1-7) at Greenville, North Carolina.

Gabby Williams finished with 16 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists.
