BRUNSWICK — Hugh O’Neil scored 23 points, going 11 for 17 from the field, and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as Bowdoin topped Husson 78-72 Tuesday night in nonconference men’s basketball game.

Jack Bors had 19 points for Bowdoin and Tim Ahn tossed in nine for the Polar Bears (9-8), who had a 40-32 halftime lead.

Raheem Anderson led the way for Husson (12-6) with 23 points, and reserve Mitch Worcester added 11.

BATES 91, UM-FARMINGTON 72: The Bobcats (15-6) closed the first half on a 16-2 run to grab a 44-29 halftime lead and easily handled the Beavers (8-11) in a nonconference game at Lewiston.

Marcus Delpeche had 22 points to lead Bates, going 9 for 12 from the floor. Reserve Jeff Spellman added 21 points.

Issac Witham had 19 points to lead four players for UMaine-Farmington in double figures.

SMCC 97, NHTI 90: John Morgan scored 20 points in the first half and the Seawolves (18-5, 10-2) held off the Lynx (16-10, 10-2) in a Yankee Small College Conference matchup in South Portland.

Morgan shot 10 of 11 in the first half and finished with 24 points.

Michael DeJesus led the Lynx with 23 points.

COLBY 90, SOUTHERN MAINE 65: Sam Jefferson had 14 points to lead five players in double figures as the Mules (10-9) easily got past the Huskies (7-13) in a nonconference game at Waterville.

The first half featured nine lead changes before Colby took control for good, closing the first half on a 21-6 run, carrying a 39-23 advantage to halftime.

Joe Connelly had 13 points for the Mules, Ethan Schlager had 12 points and Alex Dorion tossed in 11 and Dean Weaner chipped in with 10.

James Starks III led all scorers with 21 points for Southern Maine, and Jacob Littlefield added 12 points and pulled down seven boards.

(12) NORTH CAROLINA 80, PITTSBURGH 78: Justin Jackson scored 20 points and the Tar Heels (20-4, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) held on at home to top the Panthers (12-10, 1-8).

(17) MARYLAND 77, OHIO STATE 71: Justin Jackson had 22 points and 12 rebounds as the visiting Terps (20-2, 8-1 Big Ten) held off the Buckeyes (13-10, 3-7 Big Ten) down the stretch.

(22) CREIGHTON 76, (16) BUTLER 67: Justin Patton, Khyri Thomas and Marcus Foster all scored 15 points and the Bluejays (20-3, 7-3 Big East) made 13 3-pointers as they ran away from the Bulldogs (18-5, 7-4) at Indianapolis.

The Bluejays have won two straight to move into second place in the conference standings.

Kamar Baldwin finished with 14 points for Butler, which has lost two straight at home.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

COLBY 53, SOUTHERN MAINE 46: The Mules (10-9) closed the game on a 10-4 run, with MK Caverly hitting all six of her free throws in the last 40 seconds of regulation, to top the Huskies (3-14) in a nonconference game at Waterville.

Haley Driscoll had 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Colby’s balanced offense.

Alexa Srolovitz had a game-high 18 points for the Huskies.

BOWDOIN 83, UMASS-BOSTON 59: Lydia Caputi scored 15 points to lead five double-digit scorers as the Polar Bears (14-3) cruised to a win over the Beacons (8-11) at Clark Athletic Gym in Boston.

Taylor Choate scored 14, and Kate Kerrigan and Abigail Kelly each added 12 for Bowdoin, which closed the first quarter on a 15-2 run to take a 24-12 lead.

Raven Kelsey and Grace Geary each scored 12 points to lead the Beacons.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 50, ENDICOTT 43: The Nor’easters (15-5, 11-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference) used clutch free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter, going 12 for 18, to hold of the Gulls (9-11, 8-5) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

Alicia Brown led the way for UNE with 13 points.

Gabriella Copppola led Endicott with 11 points.

BATES 71, UM-FARMINGTON 42: Nina Davenport scored a game-high 24 points and Allie Coppola grabbed 16 rebounds, breaking the program’s career rebound record in the process, as the Bobcats (6-13) beat the Beavers (3-15) at Alumni Gym in Lewiston.

Coppola, who added nine points, has 892 career rebounds, surpassing 2005 graduate forward Olivia Zurek, who had 885 in her career.

SMCC 60, NHTI 55: The Seawolves (20-2, 11-1) held off a fourth-quarter rally and defeated the Lynx (19-7, 10-3) in a Yankee Small College Conference matchup in South Portland.

Alicia Ruth led the Seawolves with 20 points.

MEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 5, BOWDOIN 3: The Huskies (8-11-2) opened an early 4-0 lead and outlasted the Polar Bears (7-11-0) in a nonconference game at Gorham.

Cody Braga, Jordan Hall and Cole Klippenstein scored in the first period for the Huskies. Patrick Maglian made it 4-0 before the Polar Bears scored the next three goals – Matthew Lison, Matt Sullivan and Joseph Lace.

Tristan Dundas added an empty-net goal for Southern Maine in the final minute of regulation.
