BANGOR — Sigi Koizar scored 16 points Thursday night to lead the University of Maine to a 76-50 victory against UMass-Lowell in an America East women’s basketball game at the Cross Insurance Center.

Maine improved to 14-13, 7-5, while the River Hawks dropped to 3-22, 0-12.

The Black Bears (14-13, 7-5) closed a strong second quarter with 14-2 run that put them ahead 45-23 at halftime. Maine outscored Lowell 25-10 in the quarter.

Anita Kelava added 14 points for Maine, which held at least a 19-point lead in the second half.

Kayla Gibbs and Katherine Smith each had 13 points for the River Hawks (3-22, 0-12).

(3) MARYLAND 84, ILLINOIS 59: Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 29 points and Maryland (24-1, 12-0 Big Ten) cranked up the defense to rout Illinois (8-17, 3-9) at College Park, Maryland.

Off to the best start in school history, Maryland led 40-20 at halftime.

(5) FLORIDA STATE 102, WAKE FOREST 60: Shakayla Thomas scored a season-high 23 points and Florida State (23-2, 11-1 Atlantic Coast) cruised over Wake Forest (14-10, 5-6) at Tallahassee, Florida.

(6) SOUTH CAROLINA 60, AUBURN 41: A’ja Wilson had 17 points, Alaina Coates added 16 and South Carolina (21-2, 11-1 Southeastern) blew past Auburn (15-10, 5-6) at Columbia, South Carolina, in a final tuneup before attempting to stop No. 1 UConn’s NCAA record winning streak Monday night.

(12) LOUISVILLE 88, VIRGINIA TECH 70: Asia Durr scored 30 points and Louisville (21-6, 8-4 Atlantic Coast) used a 30-point fourth quarter to pull away from Virginia Tech(16-8, 3-8) at Blacksburg, Virginia.

(16) MIAMI 63, VIRGINIA 52: Adrienne Motley and Jessica Thomas scored 15 points apiece, Keyona Hayes had a double-double and Miami (17-7, 6-4 Atlantic Coast) held off Virginia (15-9, 4-7) at Coral Gables, Florida.

(17) NORTH CAROLINA STATE 75, GEORGIA TECH 67: Dominique Wilson scored 23 points, Chelsea Nelson had 15 points and eight rebounds, and North Carolina State (18-6, 8-3 Atlantic Coast) dominated overtime to beat Georgia Tech (14-10, 3-8) at Atlanta.

(24) TENNESSEE 77, MISSOURI 66: Diamond DeShields scored 22 points as Tennessee (16-8, 7-4 Southeastern) marked its return to the Top 25 by pulling away from Missouri (16-9, 6-5) in the fourth quarter at Knoxville, Tennessee.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

UMASS-LOWELL 100, MAINE 68: Ryan Jones scored 25 points, and Jahad Thomas had 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists as Massachusetts-Lowell (11-16, 5-7 America East) controlled visiting Maine (6-21, 2-10) from the outset.

UMass-Lowell led all the way and built an early 22-7 lead. Maine went on a 13-2 run to shave the deficit to four points with Wesley Myers’ 3-pointer with 6:49 left before halftime. But Tyler Livingston followed with a pair of layups and Thomas’ dunk made it 31-20. The River Hawks led 41-28 at halftime.

Livingston made back-to-back 3s, Matt Harris added a 3 and Thomas had another dunk, and UMass-Lowell led 55-30. The lead grew to 30 when Rinardo Perry laid it in with 16:07 left.

Matt Harris scored 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting and Livingston finished with 14 points.

Myers led Maine with 11 points and Austin Howard finished with 10.

(18) DUKE 86, (8) NORTH CAROLINA 78: Grayson Allen scored 25 points and Duke (19-5, 7-4 Atlantic Coast) beat North Carolina (21-5, 9-3) at Durham, North Carolina.

(16) PURDUE 69, INDIANA 64: Vince Edwards matched his career high with 26 points, and Caleb Swanigan added 16 points and 14 rebounds as Purdue (20-5, 9-3 Big Ten) used a late charge to beat rival Indiana (15-10, 5-7) at Bloomington, Indiana.
