Two York County men are facing misdemeanor charges this week after they made a false report of a home invasion last week, the York County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up about 5 a.m. at a home on Curtis Road in Arundel Feb. 22.

Police found Benjamin Prevatt, 25, of Wells and Adam Barton, 24, of Kennebunk, who had injuries consistent with being assaulted. Both men had been drinking, and Prevatt told officers that they were “house sitting” at the home for his uncle when three men forced their way into the home earlier that morning.

Prevatt said he was struck several times and had a gun held to his head as the intruders demanded to know where the guns were kept, and eventually stole a hunting rifle.

In the course of the investigation, police found the rifle hidden in another part of the house.

Police also determined that each man’s injuries was not from a confrontation with intruders, but were caused when the two fought each other.

On Friday, the men admitted they fabricated the story.

Both men are expected to appear in Springvale District Court June 7 on one count each of filing a false police report.
