PHILADELPHIA — Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy and Jayson Werth hit homers to back Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals held on for a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.

Scherzer (1-0) allowed two runs and four hits, striking out seven in 62/3 innings. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner waited until the fourth game to take the mound because a broken knuckle set him back in spring training.

The injury didn’t bother him against the Phillies, who fell to 3-11 in home openers at Citizens Bank Park.

Scherzer retired the first 10 batters before Howie Kendrick hit an opposite-field double in the fourth. He left with a 7-1 lead and a runner on.

Aaron Altherr hit a two-run homer off Sammy Solis in the seventh to get the Phillies within 7-4 and Freddy Galvis hit a two-run shot off Blake Treinen in the ninth to cut it to 7-6.

MARLINS 7, METS 2: Zack Wheeler lasted just four innings in his return from Tommy John surgery, giving up Derek Dietrich’s go-ahead, two-run triple and Christian Yelich’s two-run homer in New York’s loss at home.

In the fourth innning, Miami pitcher Wei-Yin Chen got his first major league hit after an 0-for-51 start at the plate.

REDS 2, CARDINALS 0: Amir Garrett pitched two-hit ball for six innings to win his major league debut, a sharp start for the former St. John’s basketball player as Cincinnati won at St. Louis.

Garrett struck out four, walked two and needed only 78 pitches to record 18 outs. The 6-foot-5 lefty played two seasons of hoops for St. John’s while already a Reds minor leaguer.

PIRATES 5, BRAVES 4: David Freese and Francisco Cervelli hit back-to-back home runs, and Pittsburgh won its home opener in snow flurries.

Freese and Cervelli went deep off reliever Josh Collmenter leading off the fifth inning.

ROCKIES 2, DODGERS 1: Kyle Freeland allowed one run in six solid innings in his major league debut, leading his hometown Rockies to a win at Denver.

The Denver native became the first starting pitcher to make his big league debut in his team’s home opener in the state in which he was born since 1966.

PADRES 7, GIANTS 6: Rookie Manuel Margot hit his first two big league homers and Yangervis Solarte had a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning in a win at San Diego.

ORIOLES 6, YANKEES 5: Manny Machado and Seth Smith homered, and Baltimore rallied from a four-run deficit to win at home.

Machado hit a three-run drive in the fifth inning to make it 5-4, and Smith completed the comeback in the seventh with a two-run shot off Tyler Clippard (0-1).

RANGERS 10, ATHLETICS 5: Nomar Mazara hit his first grand slam and had a career-high six RBI in a win at Arlington, Texas. Mazara is hitting .588 through four games, including going 3 for 5 in Friday’s win.

RAYS 10, BLUE JAYS 8: Tampa Bay got two RBI each from Evan Longoria, Steven Souza Jr., Derek Norris and Brad Miller in a win at home.
