WESTBROOK — The 38th annual Westbrook Together Days will take place this weekend with carnival rides, a 5K road race and fireworks.

The event, hosted by the Westbrook-Gorham Chamber of Commerce, will be held at Riverbank Park. The festivities, which usually draw 15,000-20,000 people, will be held Saturday from 4-10 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. There is no rain date for the event.

After the welcoming remarks on Friday, the event will feature a lineup of four musical acts, including the Westbrook Jazz Band, Mike Preston and Buckstop Band, Time Pilots, and the 80s tribute band Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

The 5K road race starts Saturday at 8 a.m. near the Civil War memorial in Riverbank Park. The family-friendly race, which is organized by Crow Athletics, cost $25 to enter and registrations are being accepted until June 1.

Runners will go over Bridge and Brown streets and then come down Cumberland and Main streets and head back to the start. There will be cash prizes for the top three men and women, as well as awards for all age groups.

The annual parade, which has no theme this year, will begin at 10 a.m. with Grand Marshal Tom “Woody” Eldridge, Westbrook’s former Public Works director who spent 43 years working for the city.

Sue Joyce, the vice president of the Westbrook-Gorham Chamber of Commerce, said Eldridge was chosen because of his long-time service to the city. She said he’s “someone who’s been there for this town over and over.”

“We thought he was someone who was very dedicated to our town and he’s very humble,” Joyce said. “He’s just very loyal to this town and takes pride in his work.”

The parade line-up begins at 8:45 a.m. The route begins on Lincoln Street, heads down Bridge Street, continues up Main Street, and ends at Riverbank Park.

There will be a silent auction from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and a live auction, which will start at 12:30 p.m. Both will take place in the auction tent on the right side of the park near Speirs Street.

At noon on Saturday, entertainment will begin with musician Rick Charette, a children’s performer. There will be four more musical performances throughout the day, as well as one cheerleading performance, two dance performances and a circus show.

Fireworks will begin in the park at 9:45 p.m. During the two-day event, there will also be carnival rides, a petting zoo, pony rides, a dunk tank, a moon bounce and food vendors throughout the park.
