SANFORD — Shirley Brunette Libbey, 85, of Sanford, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the Newton Center in Sanford.

She lost the love of her life, her husband Dick, and the light of her life, son Rick, seven years ago. Those of us that knew and loved her understood how hard it was for her to go on. Everyone that knew Shirley or met her recently felt blessed to have that extra time with her. Her sense of humor never failed while her loving heart was always open to everyone she spent time with. Her greatest love was for her two grandchildren Nate and Nicki Libbey.

She was married to Richard Libbey in December of 1952, and had her son, Rick. a few years later. Shirley retired from General Electric in Somersworth, New Hampshire.  

Shirley loved to spend time at the beach with her best friend Margaret Sevigny and enjoyed hosting many family gatherings in her home. Love of family of was most important to her.

She was a communicant of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish and sang in the choir.  

Shirley was preceded in death by: her parents, Albert and Irene (Costello) Brunette; sisters, Lorraine Skillings and Joyce Dube; brothers Rudy, Roland and Leo Brunette; her husband, Richard C. Libbey; and son, Rick Libbey.

Survivors include: grandchildren, Nate and Nicki Libbey, daughter-in-law, Frances Caron Libbey; sisters, Paula Robichaud, Teresa Baker, Sylvia Marsh, Rita Ricker and husband, Herbie, and Linda Millet; a brother-in-law, Roger Libbey his wife, Sylvia: and many nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 7, at noon at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, North Avenue, in Sanford, followed by a burial at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
