GORHAM — Philippe E. Paquet, Jr., 85, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at The Gorham House in Gorham, Maine following a valent journey with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

He was born to Phillippe and Rosilda (Gagnon) Paquet on Feb. 23, 1932 in Biddeford, Maine.

He attended St. Andres School, St. Francis High School and the University of Maine at Orono.  He held a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.  He served in the United States Air Force in the 1950’s stationed in the Philippines and St. Antonio, Texas. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph Credit Union (now People’s Choice).

He met the love of his life, Lorraine (Pothier) Paquet, and they were married Oct. 15, 1962. Together they built a home together of love, respect and joy. They enjoyed hosting holiday parties, Saturday evening “date” nights, Sunday afternoon drives, walks on the beach, and visits to Florida, San Diego, Phoenix, Colorado and a special trip to Europe and a Caribbean Cruise.  They were each other’s very best friends and were always together. In his words, “the best thing Lorraine and I ever did was have children.” He was a devoted husband who focused on the care of his wife especially as her own Alzheimer’s disease progressed.

Philippe was very proud of his education and worked all of his life in the accounting profession.  In the 1970’s he began his own tax accounting practice in Biddeford.  He retired in 2000, but continued to work part time for several years thereafter.

Philippe was an avid walker. He walked to work daily. He enjoyed walking for his errands every morning.

Five years ago Philippe and Lorraine moved to The Wardwell Assisted Living Home where they shared three years together. As their health deteriorated, they were able to stay together and moved to The Gorham House.

Phillipe’s love of his grandchildren was a constant. Always sharing how proud and how special they were to him. He enjoyed spending time with them at Watchic Lake, his son’s home in Colorado and at family gatherings.

Philippe leaves behind his loving wife Lorraine of 55 years, his son Albert Paquet (his daughter-in-law Lynette and grandsons Dominic, Lucas and Brock) and his daughter Lisa Morin (his son-in-law Jerry and granddaughter Sydney).

He also leaves behind his sisters Germaine and Fernande Paquet and very special nephews and nieces.

He is predeceased by his parents and sisters (Lucille Paquet, Claire Paquet, and Simone Paquet Reny).

The family thanks The Gorham House and Compasses Hospice for their care of Philippe which provided his family with profound peace during his final hours.

Philippe was a generous man who gave quietly to many children’s organizations.  Gifts in lieu of flowers in Phillipe’s memory can be made to The Center for Grieving Children, 555 Forest Ave., Portland, ME 04101.
