SANFORD — Craig M. Begin, of Sanford, Maine, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Craig is survived by: his mother, Linda Lawson, and stepfather, Bob Weiner, of Concord, New Hampshire, and his brother, Kyle Begin, of Portland, Maine. Other survivors include father Christopher Begin of Farmington, Maine, maternal grandmother Viva Lawson of Bowling Green, Ohio, paternal grandmother Ruth Lamontagne of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Born in Strong, Maine, in 1982, Craig grew up in Farmington and completed his education at Mt. Blue High School in 2003.

Following a later move to southern Maine, he settled into a quiet life centered around his Waban Projects group home, Sunny Lane. He attended Life Works day program Monday through Friday and enjoyed regular community suppers and services at Curtis Lake Church.

At home Craig was a fierce defender of his favorite recliner and spent many peaceful interludes studying the living room ceiling fan. He had nothing but affection for his housemates and for the creative and talented direct support professionals who kept him safe, secure, comfortable and happy.

Craig enjoyed flipping through catalogues with thin paper pages. Sorting cards or blocks was another fun activity. He sometimes plunked notes on an electronic keyboard while “Beyond the Sea” cycled endlessly on auto repeat. Craig loved long drives with his mother and trips to restaurants and museums. He was a prolific artist who worked exclusively in Crayola marker. Christmas was his favorite holiday; bright lights and festively wrapped presents thrilled him to no end. He thought McDonald’s french fries were the best food on Earth,

Craig’s mother extends particular thanks to the compassionate doctors and nurses who saw Craig through the end of his life.

Cremation at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco, Maine, 04072, will be followed by a series of private celebrations.

Memorial donations may be made to Waban Projects, 5 Dunaway Drive, Sanford, Maine, 04073.
