BRUNSWICK — Susan Rose Levine of Mere Point Road, Brunswick, died Thursday July 13, a few weeks before both her 84th birthday and her 63rd wedding anniversary. She died unexpectedly following a busy weekend with friends and family.

Sue and her husband Dan were together since they were teenagers, marrying when she was 20 and he was 19. They grew up in New York City, and met at Walden school. They went to Antioch College together in Yellow Springs Ohio and lived in Evanston Ill., and Richmond Indiana. They moved to Maine in 1963 and spent academic years in Denmark and Germany.

Sue believed deeply in helping children get a strong start in life. She started Bath-Brunswick Head Start in the mid-sixties. She taught elementary school most of her career, at Harpswell Island School and Williams Cohen school in Topsham. She enjoyed meeting former students and their families around Brunswick.

Sue was also an artist, making dramatic block prints primarily of Maine scenes and family, with several exhibits. Her popularity as an artist grew in the last several years through her cards, sold in many stores in Maine and around New England. She is predeceased by her sister Nan Serwer of Bethesda MD. She is survived by her husband Dan, and two children, daughter Karen and husband David of Bedford, MA, son Tim and his wife Maureen, of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Kelsey of Williamstown, MA, Brendan and his wife Emily of Jackson Hole WY, Rebekah and her husband Kyle of Lakeview, MT and their two children Alyce and Landon.

Arrangements for a memorial service have not yet been determined.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mid-Coast Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 86, Brunswick, Maine, 04011-0713.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
