ARUNDEL — A 48-year-old Biddeford man whom police say robbed an Arundel credit union on Wednesday is behind bars at York County Jail, held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

No one was injured in the 1 p.m. hold-up, said Maj. Paul Mitchell of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell on Thursday said Glenn Brackett, 48, who was taken into custody later in the day Wednesday, implied he had a weapon when he allegedly walked into the Infinity Credit Union on Route 111 and demanded money.

He said credit union employees told deputies that the robber walked in wth a piece of cloth draped over his outstretched arm and demanded cash. He left with an undisclosed sum.

Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Brackett drove away and that his vehicle was later found abandoned in Biddeford.

Brackett, of Biddeford, was located by  Maine State Police troopers and a K-9 at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in Saco along the Saco River where he was he was hiding in the woods, said Mitchell. No weapon was recovered.

McCausland in a news release said two state police dogs and the Maine State Police airplane were involved in tracking the suspect along railroad tracks and woods, leading troopers to a wooded area off Lincoln Street in Saco.  Trooper Adam Schmidt deployed K9 Ibo for a track from the last sighting and located the suspect in the thick wooded area where he was taken into custody.  Cash stolen from the credit union  was found hidden under a log, near where Brackett was captured, McCausland said.

York County Sheriff Bill King said in a brief statement issued this morning that a cooperative effort between the sheriff’s office, Maine State Police, Biddeford Police, Saco Police, and the FBI resulted in the arrest.

McCausland said the U.S. Marshal’s Service was also involved,  as were disaptchers working in Biddeford, Sanford and Gray.
