SACO — Richard C. Parent, 77, of Saco died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford. 

He was born May 26, 1940 in West Warwick, Rhode Island, a son of Clifford and Blanche Couture Parent and was educated in Rhode Island and northern Maine.  

On July 8, 1971, he married Sheree L. Brewer in Hartford, Connecticut.

He received his high school diploma from Biddeford Adult Education in 1970.

Richard had served in the U.S. Army in Panama during the Vietnam War.

He was a co-owner of Spongee Maintenance Service for 12 years; he then founded Parent’s Cleaning Service which he operated for six years, selling that to establish Seabreeze Cleaning Supplies which he operated for eight years.  He then was a driving instructor for Vance’s Driving School for eight years, retiring in 1998.

In his earlier years, hunting and fishing were an important part of his life. Richard enjoyed reading, painting, bible studies, traveling and vacationing in Florida.  His greatest joy was helping those less fortunate to discover God’s blessings.

Richard is survived by Sheree Parent, his wife of 56 years, of Saco; a daughter, Suzanne L. Parent Vance and her husband, Ronald of Saco; a son, Scott R. Parent and his fiance, Robin Poirier of Saco; brother-in-law Horace E. Brewer of Corsicana, Texas; sister-in-law Sandy Lemay of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren: Joshua A. Vance, Jacqueline D. Parent and Sheldon R. Parent of Saco.

A funeral service is planned for noon Aug. 21, 2017 at Bible Baptist Church, 146 Ferry Road, Saco.  Inurnment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery and then a lunch reception at Bible Baptist Church.
