BIDDEFORD — The body of 53-year-old Biddeford resident Elizabeth Douglass, who was missing after a boat overturned near Biddeford Pool, was recovered Sunday according to The Department of Marine Resources.

A 21-foot cuddy cabin capsized about 10:40 a.m. Sunday in Biddeford Pool, according to Coast Guard Spokesman Petty Officer Andrew Barresi.

Four people were aboard the boat and were not wearing life jackets, Barresi said.

One of the passengers on the boat fired a handgun into the air to notify others they were in distress, said Barresi.

A good Samaritan rescued three of the passengers, he said.

Around 2:30 p.m. divers from the Maine Marine Patrol found the body of the 53-year-old woman, Barresi said.

The Coast Guard dispatched a lifeboat as well as two air units. Scarborough and Saco Fire Departments sent marine patrol units and the Biddeford Police Department assisted.
