Dancers to appear
in Macy’s Parade

Thirteen student dancers from Drouin Dance Center of Westbrook will perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The parade will be televised on NBC.

“They have begun rehearsals of the choreography that will be performed in Herald Square in front of millions of people, and will continue to rehearse and prepare until they leave on Nov. 18,” the dance center said in a news release.

The dancers are Katherine Axelsen, Emma Boucher, Hannah Coro, Hope Higgins, Amber Moxcey, Samantha Siewertsen, Megan Thibodeau, all of Westbrook; Jessica Brooks and Grace Foster of Windham; Meghan Dadiego of Portland; Alexandra Ferrigan and Melanie Wright of Gorham; and Grace O’Mara of Scarborough.

In addition to learning the choreography, the dancers are preparing for a whirlwind week of rehearsals to prepare for the parade. The dancers will perform with almost 600 other selected dancers from around the country, with the parade performance production company Spirit of America Productions.

They are the only participants from Maine, and with one other dance school from Massachusetts, are among the only performers from New England.

With their fellow performers, they will also attend the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and take in a Broadway show.

This is the third time Drouin Dance Center has been selected to dance in the parade. Drouin Dance Center previously performed in 2011 and 2014 parades and also appeared on the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting broadcast on NBC.

“We are very honored to have been selected for a third time for this event, known all over the world,” said Danielle Drouin, owner and director. “Our dancers have performed in the 2011 and 2014 parades and had amazing experiences. The hard work of all of these dancers earned us another invitation, which we are very excited about.”
