Bruins-Blackhawks matchup announced for 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame

The Boston Bruins will meet the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame, the NHL announced Saturday.

It will be the fourth Winter Classic appearance for Chicago and the third for Boston. The Bruins split their first two, beating Philadelphia 2-1 in overtime at Fenway Park in 2010 and losing 5-1 to Montreal at Gillette Stadium in 2016.


NBA G LEAGUE: James Young dropped in 40 points to power the Wisconsin Herd (5-1) to a 132-125 win over the Maine Red Claws (4-2) at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jabari Bird scored 32 points for Maine.


GIRLS’ SOCCER: Brewster Academy (13-3-2) tied its NEPSAC Class C semifinal against Berwick Academy 1-1 on Maddie Flagg’s goal with two minutes left in regulation, then outshot the Bulldogs 4-3 in penalty kicks at Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Caroline Starr scored for Berwick (16-4-2).


ATP FINALS: David Goffin claimed the biggest win of his career, ending Roger Federer’s bid for a seventh ATP Finals title by stunning the favorite 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals at London.

Grigor Dimitrov also reached the final, beating American Jack Sock, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.


PGA: PGA Tour rookie Austin Cook shot a 4-under 66 to increase his lead to three strokes in the RSM Classic at St. Simons Island, Georgia. Chris Kirk was second after a 64.

LPGA: Michelle Wie shot a 66 for a four-way share of the lead going into the final round of the CME Group Tour Championship at Naples, Florida, after Sung Hyun Park fell back with a 75.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Justin Rose shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the season-ending Tour Championship at Dubai.


NFL: Falcons running back Devonta Freeman will sit out Monday’s game at Seattle while recovering from his second concussion of the season.
