A Gorham man pleaded guilty this week to possession of child pornography.

Christopher Shepard, 31, pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland, U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank said in a statement.

Gorham police obtained a warrant in April to search Shepard’s apartment. Officers seized his cellphone, which was found to contain several images of a girl under 12 who was engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Shepard faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, Frank said. He also faces a supervised release term of five years to life. He will be sentenced after the U.S. Probation Office completes its investigation.

The investigation was conducted by the Gorham Police Department and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
