The report of a house fire at 64 Royal Road in North Yarmouth on Monday afternoon turned out to be nothing more than a propane heater backfiring.
Fire Chief Greg Payson said the man who owns the home was trying to start the heater when it backfired, causing siding on the home’s exterior to ignite.
When firefighters arrived just after 3 p.m., the fire was out. Damage to the house was minor and no injuries were reported.
