BANGOR — The University of Maine took early control Sunday and went on to a 69-36 victory against Maryland-Baltimore County in an America East women’s basketball game at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Black Bears (13-8, 6-2) opened a 36-16 halftime lead and cruised past the Retrievers (2-19, 1-7) for their fourth straight win. Maine is second in the league behind Albany, which is 8-1.

This was the fewest points allowed by Maine since holding Rider to 35 points in November 2005.

The Black Bears have trailed for a total of 2 minutes, 29 seconds in their winning streak.

(2) MISSISSIPPI STATE 66, MISSISSIPPI 49: Victoria Vivians scored 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting to lead Mississippi State (22-0, 8-0 Southeastern) over Mississippi (11-10, 1-7) at Oxford, Mississippi.

(3) BAYLOR 83, (20) WEST VIRGINIA 72: Kristy Wallace scored 25 points and Baylor (19-1, 9-0 Big 12) rallied in the second half to beat West Virginia (17-5, 5-5) at Morgantown, West Virginia.

(4) LOUISVILLE 89, WAKE FOREST 52: Asia Durr regained her shooting touch, scoring 26 points to lead Louisville (22-1, 8-1 Atlantic Coast) over visiting Wake Forest (10-12, 2-7).

(5) NOTRE DAME 100, (8) FLORIDA STATE 69: Kathryn Westbeld had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Notre Dame (20-2, 8-1 Atlantic Coast) beat Florida State (18-3, 6-2) at Tallahassee, Florida.

(7) OREGON 84, UTAH 68: Sabrina Ionescu had 19 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds in her ninth career triple-double, Maite Cazorla scored 21 points and was 5 of 5 from 3-point range, and Oregon (20-3, 9-1 Pac-12) pulled away from Utah (14-7, 5-5) at Salt Lake City.

(9) SOUTH CAROLINA 64, (11) MISSOURI 54: A’ja Wilson had 15 points, hitting the go-ahead basket with 4:13 left, and South Carolina (18-3, 7-2 Southeastern) outlasted Missouri (17-4, 5-3) at Columbia, South Carolina.

LOUISIANA STATE 70, (10) TENNESSEE 59: Chloe Jackson scored 21 points and LSU(13-6, 5-3 Southeastern) took control in the third quarter to beat Tennessee (17-4, 5-3) at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

(13) UCLA 79, WASHINGTON STATE 70: Jordin Canada scored 18 points as UCLA(17-4, 8-2 Pac-12) held off Washington State (9-13, 2-8) at Pullman, Washington.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(1) VILLANOVA 85, MARQUETTE 82: Jalen Brunson scored 31 points despite leaving briefly with a left ankle injury, Donte DiVincenzo added 23 and Villanova (20-1, 7-1 Big East) avoided another upset in Milwaukee by beating Marquette (13-8, 4-5).

(3) PURDUE 74, INDIANA 67: Isaac Haas matched his career high with 26 points, Vincent Edwards added 19 and Purdue (21-2, 10-0 Big Ten) held off Indiana (12-10, 5-5) at Bloomington, Indiana.

(6) MICHIGAN STATE 74, MARYLAND 68: Joshua Langford scored 19 points and led a second-half surge that carried Michigan State (20-3, 8-2 Big Ten) past Maryland (15-6, 4-6) at College Park, Maryland, giving Coach Tom Izzo his seventh straight 20-win season.

MEN’S HOCKEY

COLBY 6, FITCHBURG STATE 2: Colby (9-8) scored five goals in the first period and went on to defeat the Falcons (10-6-3) at Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
