LYMAN — Goodwins Mills Fire and Rescue, serving Dayton and Lyman, is asking residents of the towns it serves to notify them if they see discarded needles.

The fire department recently received a call from a concerned citizen who found needles along Kennebunk Pond Road. Firefighters went to the area and retrieved about 20 needles on a half-mile stretch of road.

The fire fighters are asking people if they find discarded needles, not to handle them but instead call the fire department at 499-2362 or 499-2244, and firefighters will collect the needles and dispose of them properly.

Fire fighters say as the snow melts, more of these needles may be exposed.
