KENNEBUNKPORT — Dean C. Coniaris, 58, of Kennebunkport, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

He was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 15, 1959, a son of Charles and Betty (Kafalas) Coniaris.

Dean graduated from Columbia High School, Class of 1977, in Maplewood, New Jersey. He also graduated from Newbury College in Boston.

Dean had a great work ethic, he was employed by Associated Eye Care in Sanford for 20 years and for Eyecare Medical Group in Portland. He also was a self employed lobsterman out of Camp Ellis for over 40 years. He owned and operated a lobster pound for many years with his wife Ellen and was known as the Fish ‘N Optician.

Dean enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid snow skier, liked biking and walking on the beach. He also had an interest in cooking.

Dean, known by many as the “Mayor of Camp Ellis,” was a dedicated member of the Saco Fire Department Call Division for 38 years and a member of Masonic Lodge for nine years.

Throughout his life, Dean gained an appreciation and realized the importance of his faith and attended Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newark, New Jersey and also the South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport.

With Dean’s passing we remind ourselves and others that his life is to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, he will remain in our hearts forever. Through our time together we have created wonderful memories that we will all hold on to and cherish. He will be sadly missed by many.

He was predeceased by his father Charles.

He is survived by his mother Betty (Kafalas) Coniaris of Kennebunk; his loving wife of 22 years Ellen (Meserve) Coniaris of Kennebunkport,; sister Cynthia Mandarakas and her husband Lou of Bloomfield, New Jersey; and brother John Coniaris and his wife Beth of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
