FALMOUTH — There will be no contested primaries in Portland’s northern suburbs on June 12, unless any successful write-in candidates emerge.

The deadline for candidates from parties to file nomination papers with the Office of the Secretary State for the June 12 primaries was March 15. Unaffiliated candidates have until June 1 to file.

House District 44, which represents most of Falmouth, has three declared candidates: incumbent second-term Rep. Teresa Pierce, D-Falmouth, Republican Sarah Sandlin and Green candidate Kathryn Shrock.

In House District 43, which covers part of Falmouth and part of Portland, Rep. Heather Sanborn, D-Portland, is not seeking a second term, opting instead to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Mark Dion, D-Portland, in Senate District 28. Portland Democrat Edward Crockett and Falmouth Republican Cathleen Nichols have filed to replace Sanborn.

Rep. Dale Denno, D-Cumberland, seeks a second term in House District 45, which covers Cumberland and part of Gray. Tamsin Thomas of Cumberland is the Republican candidate.

In House District 46, which covers North Yarmouth, Durham and half of Pownal, incumbent Rep. Paul Chace, R-Durham, is seeking a third term. Braden Sharpe, a Durham Democrat, is also running.

Rematches from the 2014 and 2016 elections are shaping up in House Districts 47 and 48. In District 47 – which covers Yarmouth, Chebeague Island and Long Island – incumbent state Rep. Janice Cooper, D-Yarmouth, is seeking a fourth term. Richard Snow of Yarmouth is the Republican candidate.

In District 48, representing Freeport and Pownal, incumbent Rep. Sara Gideon, D-Freeport, also seeks a fourth term. Paul Schultz of Pownal, who challenged Gideon the past two elections, is again on the Republican ballot.

Lois Kilby-Chesley, a Durham Democrat, and Jeffrey Timberlake, a Turner Republican, are running for the Senate District 22 seat being vacated by Sen. Garrett Mason, R-Lisbon Falls, who is term limited this year. District 22 covers Durham, Greene, Leeds, Lisbon, Litchfield, Sabattus, Turner, Wales and Wayne.

In Senate District 24, Sen. Everett “Brownie” Carson, D-Harpswell, is the incumbent. Diana Garcia of Brunswick is the only Republican candidate for the seat representing Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, North Yarmouth and Pownal.

And state Sen. Cathy Breen, D-Falmouth, is seeking a third term in Senate District 25. Republican David Savage, also of Falmouth resident, is her presumptive November opponent for the seat, which represents Chebeague Island, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gray, Long Island, Yarmouth and part of Westbrook.

The general election is Nov. 6.
