In 1969, the Supreme Court, in Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, established that students in U.S. public schools do not forfeit their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression when they enter the schoolhouse gate.
We can only hope that school administrators keep Tinker in mind as they seek to protect their students. Let all sides demonstrate or speak!
