BATH — Election fans may find this June a bit disappointing: there are no contested local primaries for either the state House or Senate.

The deadline for party candidates to file nomination papers with the Office of the Secretary State for the June 12 primaries was March 15. Unaffiliated candidates have until June 1 to file.

Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, will seek a third term in Senate District 23, which covers all of Sagadahoc County and the Lincoln County town of Dresden. Susan Wasserott of Woolwich filed on the Republican side.

In Senate District 24, Sen. Everett “Brownie” Carson, D-Harpswell, is the incumbent. Diana Garcia of Brunswick is the only Republican candidate for the seat representing Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, North Yarmouth and Pownal.

In House District 49, the Democratic incumbent is Rep. Matthea Daughtry of Brunswick, who is seeking a fourth term. Michael Stevens of Brunswick, who lost to Daughtry in 2014 and 2016, is the only candidate on the Republican ballot.

District 49 represents West Brunswick, and includes most of Brunswick’s downtown.

Rep. Joyce “Jay” McCreight, D-Harpswell, is running for a third term in District 51, which covers Harpswell, West Bath and a small piece of Brunswick. Sean Hall, also of Harpswell, is the only candidate on the Republican ballot.

In Bath, Democratic Rep. Jennifer DeChant is seeking election to a fourth term in District 52. Bil Weidner of Bath, the only Republican candidate, is challenging her for a second time.

In Topsham’s District 54, Democratic Rep. Denise Tepler is seeking a third term. Leon Brillant of Topsham is the Republican candidate.
