He was born in Saco on Dec. 14, 1928 to parents Albert and Beatrice (Metayer) Gilbert. He was a proud graduate of Notre Dame Parochial School of Saco.
He married his wife Noella on May 9, 1953 and they had three daughters together. They were longtime residents of Biddeford.
Armand was employed at Saco Defense for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He also served in the National Guard for several years.
Armand loved the ocean, especially the coast of Maine, successfully lobstering for over 50 years. Many knew him and referred to him as “The Legend,” “Cap” or “The King.”
Armand was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, beaver trapping and many outdoor activities, including gardening. Everyone who came in touch with him, enjoyed his humor, wit, and his sharing of puns and lifelong experiences. Of all his loves, Armand’s greatest enjoyment was gathering with his family to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and family events. He enjoyed entertaining his family and friends with his many humorous experiences, which are some of his family’s most cherished memories.
Armand was predeceased by his wife Noella, his daughter Joan Platt, his grandson Nicholas Platt, his brother Maurice Gilbert and his sister Rita McIntyre.
He is survived by two daughters, Janice Gilbert of Biddeford and June Acin and her husband Philippe of Biddeford; son-in-law Richard Platt of Saco; four grandchildren, Stewart Platt and his wife Hannah (Brzycki) of Saco, Brianna Gilbert of Biddeford, Philippe Acin Jr. and his wife Rebecca (Mondor) of Biddeford, and Mikel Acin of Biddeford; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Gilbert; two sisters, Theresa Delage and Bernadette Cyr; nieces, nephews and countless extended family and friends whom he loved dearly.
Visiting Hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.
