Three former University of Maine players and a member of the University of Southern Maine’s national championship team in 1997 are among this year’s 10-member class for the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame.
The list includes Jason Jensen, a Portland High graduate and current Bowdoin College pitching coach who was named the outstanding player of the NCAA Division III World Series in 1997, when USM won its second national title. Jensen, a left-hander, was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks and reached Triple-A.
Other honorees are:
• Edmund “Ned” Beyer, a two-time All-State Series selection for Bowdoin
• Willie Boynton of Skowhegan, an All-American pitcher at Springfield College who played in the Padres organization.
• Jim Cameron, a former UMaine player from Trenton.
• Ronald “Mickey” Foster, a Standish High graduate who pitched in the Washington Senators farm system
• Dave Gaw, a UMaine player from Guilford and a longtime coach at Piscataquis Community High School
• Robert Lippert, a longtime youth and high school coach in Augusta
• Maynard Maxwell, a standout town team player from Lee
• Brian O’Gara, a Westbrook native who is vice president of special events for Major League Baseball
• Shane Slicer, a former UMaine infielder from Waterford who has won two state championships in 16 years as Oxford Hills High coach
The inductees will be honored Sunday, July 22, at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland.
