LOWELL, Mass. — John Arel struck out 12 and threw a no-hitter but was still the losing pitcher as UMass-Lowell earned a doubleheader split with a 1-0 victory over Maine in the second game of an America East baseball doubleheader Saturday.

Ben Prada of UMass-Lowell (16-19, 7-7 America East) led off the third inning by drawing one of three walks surrendered by Arel (4-1), then stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.

Maine (11-24, 6-5) won the opener, 9-4 in 10 innings. Jeremy Pena singled home the tiebreaking run in the 10th, and Danny Casals hit a three-run homer.

Hernen Sardinas had four hits and two RBI in Game 1.

SOUTHERN MAINE SPLITS WITH PLYMOUTH STATE: Anthony Degifico had four RBI to lead USM (19-8, 6-3 Little East) to a 10-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Plymouth State (10-11, 3-3) in Gorham.

Southern Maine fell 7-2 in the first game, as Josh Goulet drove in three runs for Plymouth State.

Gage Feeney (5-1) struck out three and allowed five hits in seven innings to earn the win in Game 2. Dylan Hapworth hit his fifth home run of the season and added two RBI singles for the Huskies.

BATES SWEEPS TRINITY: Zach Avila had three hits and two RBI in each game as Bates (11-10) earned a pair of wins over Trinity (13-12), beating the Bantams 5-3 and 4-3 at Hartford, Connecticut.

The Bobcats took the opener with four runs in the seventh. Avila’s two-run single drove in the tying and go-ahead runs.

Connor DiVincenzo was 2 for 2 with two walks for Bates in Game 2. Trinity’s Cooper Mooney was 5 for 5 with an RBI.

ST. JOSEPH’S 4, MITCHELL 2: Jared Gagne and Jacob White each had two hits and Anthony DiPrizio drove in two runs as the Monks (21-8, 5-1 GNAC) defeated the Mariners (21-6, 9-2) in Standish.

St. Joseph’s jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Two runs scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by DiPrizio with the bases loaded, and Justin Juliano followed with an RBI single.

Greg Emanuelson added an RBI single in the seventh.

Travis Godbout (5-1) earned the win, allowing four hits and two runs in six innings. Josh Partridge retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save.

MIDDLEBURY 11, BOWDOIN 10: Hayden Smith capped a 3-for-6 day with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Panthers (8-13) beat the Polar Bears (11-14) in Middlebury, Vermont.

Bowdoin tied the game in the top of the ninth on RBI singles by Eric Mah and Brendan O’Neil.

Connor Lee drove in three runs with a home run and a triple for Bowdoin, and Mah finished with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored.

TUFTS SWEEPS COLBY: Tommy O’Hara and Nick Falkson combined for four home runs to lead the Jumbos (15-10, 1-8 NESCAC) to a doubleheader sweep against the Mules (5-18, 6-3) in Medford, Massachusetts.

Falkson hit a grand slam during an eight-run fourth inning in the first game as Tufts won 14-1.

O’Hara went 5 for 5 with two two-run homers in Game 2, which the Bantams won 20-6.

SMCC SWEEPS GREAT BAY C.C.: James Parisi tossed a no-hitter to lead the Seawolves (23-12, 7-0) to a 7-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Herons (8-13, 2-4) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

SMCC won 6-5 in Game 2.

LACROSSE

COLBY 10, TRINITY 9: Mason Brady’s goal with 1:32 remaining gave the Mules (6-6, 3-6 NESCAC) a win over the Bantams (4-9, 1-8) in Waterville.

Hassan and Tucker Dietrick each scored three goals for Colby, which led a 9-4 lead slip away before getting the winning goal.

AMHERST 26, BATES 12: Jon Coffey scored eight goals, Evan Wolf added five and the Mammoths (12-2, 8-1 NESCAC) rolled past the Bobcats (7-7, 3-6) in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Brendan Mullally scored three goals for Bates. Matt Chlastawa had two goals and four assists.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 10, SOUTHERN MAINE 6: Donovan Prozinski scored three goals and added two assists, and Tom Donahue had two goals and two assists for the Corsairs (7-8, 2-3 Little East) in a win over the Huskies (6-7, 3-2) at Gorham.

Seth Wing scored twice for USM. Paul Leonardo, Cam Thibault, Tyler Sproul and Nate Delgiudice each added a goal.

NICHOLS 15, UNE 13: Bray-den Carroll scored four goals, Casey Campanale added three and the Bison (11-5, 3-4 Commonwealth) edged the Nor’easters (8-7, 3-3) in Biddeford.

Alex Zadworny finished with six goals and two assists for the Nor’easters.

NORWICH 11, ST. JOSEPH’S 8: Michael Cashman broke a 7-7 tie with nine seconds left in the third quarter, and the Cadets (10-5, 7-1 GNAC) pulled away from the Monks (8-8, 4-4) in Northfield, Vermont.

Consecutive goals by Tyler Brewster, Dan Cunningham and Matt Donnell in a 90-second span enabled the Monks to erase a 7-4 deficit, but Norwich answered with four straight goals.

WILLIAMS 11, BOWDOIN 8: Kevin Stump scored five of his six goals in the first half as the Ephs (8-6, 6-3 NESCAC) beat the Polar Bears (8-5, 4-5) in Brunswick.

Brett Kujala collected three goals and an assist for Bowdoin.
