HOUSTON — Justin Verlander pitched seven sharp innings, AL MVP Jose Altuve hit his first home run of the season and the Houston Astros beat the Angels 5-2 Wednesday, ending Los Angeles’ road winning streak at a team record-tying 11 in a row.

Albert Pujols connected off Verlander for his 619th career homer. Pujols has 2,994 hits.

Alex Bregman hit a three-run double and Jake Marisnick homered as Houston avoided a three-game sweep. The Angels had also won 11 straight road games in 1988.

MARINERS 4, WHITE SOX 3: Mike Zunino homered and scored twice to back Felix Hernandez in Seattle’s road win.

RAYS 8, ORIOLES 4: Joey Wendle had three hits and two RBI, Adeiny Hechavarria homered and Tampa Bay beat former teammate Alex Cobb at Baltimore.

YANKEES 7, TWINS 4: Didi Gregorius hit his ninth homer and Tyler Austin added a three-run homer as host New York won its fifth straight.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

ROCKIES 5, PADRES 2: Jon Gray struck out 11 in six dominant innings and David Dahl lined a two-run triple, lifting Colorado over visiting San Diego.

BRAVES 5, REDS 4: Prized prospect Ronald Acuna Jr. singled and scored the tying run in the eighth inning of his big league debut, and Atlanta Braves won at Cincinnati.

Acuna, 20, became the youngest player in the majors when he was called up from Triple-A before the game. He went 1 for 5 and played left field.

NATIONALS 15, GIANTS 2: Trea Turner got five hits, Matt Adams homered and drove in six runs, and visiting Washington ended a four-game losing streak.

PHILLIES 5, DIAMONDBACKS 3: Aaron Altherr hit a go-ahead three-run homer, Jake Arrieta outpitched Zack Greinke and Philadelphia beat visiting Arizona.

INTERLEAGUE

TIGERS 13, PIRATES 10: Nicholas Castellanos stayed hot with four hits and a key home run and Detroit used 20 hits to win at Pittsburgh in the opener of a doubleheader.

RAYS: Jonny Venters, 33, is back in the big leagues, ready to pitch for Tampa Bay after enduring three Tommy John surgeries and a six-year absence.

INDIANS: Veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera will report to extended spring training after signing a minor league contract with Cleveland.

RANGERS: The Rangers placed third baseman Adrian Beltre on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

BREWERS: An MRI revealed that first baseman Eric Thames has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.
