GYMNASTICS
Jasmine “Jazzy” Cawley of Standish earned an all-around score of 35.525 points Friday morning to place 26th of 28 girls in her age group at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern Championships Friday morning at the Rochester (New York) Institute of Technology.
Cawley, 10, scored highest on vault with 9.100 points followed by 9.075 on balance beam, 8.725 on uneven bars and 8.625 on floor exercise. She was the only gymnast from Maine to qualify for the meet, which includes the top Level 9 girls from 26 states.
New Jersey’s Olivia Kelly, who turns 12 in late May, won the all-around title with a score of 37.700. Her best individual performance was 9.500 on beam.
BASEBALL
EASTERN LEAGUE: The Hartford Yard Goats rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Portland Sea Dogs 5-4 in Hartford, Connecticut.
Jeremy Rivera put Portland ahead 3-1 in the third on a three-run homer.
Wes Rogers hit the go-ahead single for Hartford in the sixth inning.
Cole Sturgeon had three hits for Portland.
• The Sea Dogs called up right-hander Jordan Weems from the Class-A Salem Red Sox.
PREP SCHOOLS
SOFTBALL: Delaney Kingsland had five hits with six RBI to lead Berwick Academy to a 20-7 victory over Beaver Country Day School.
Andrea Caradonna went 5 for 5 with five RBI for Berwick (1-6), and Laura Slama added four hits.
FOOTBALL
NFL: The Oakland Raiders agreed to a one-year deal with veteran linebacker Derrick Johnson to bolster the middle of their defense.
Johnson, 35, spent his first 13 NFL seasons with the rival Kansas City Chiefs and will likely fill the role at middle linebacker.
• The Dolphins claimed QB Bryce Petty a day after he was waived by the Jets.
• The Vikings signed offensive tackle Brian O’Neill, their second-round draft pick out of Pittsburgh.
• Defensive end Cliff Avril was released by the Seahawks with a failed physical designation due to a neck injury that cost him most of the 2017 season.
BASKETBALL
NBA:Anthony Davis had 33 points and 18 rebounds as the New Orleans Pelicans defeated visiting Golden State 119-100 to trim the Warriors’ series lead to 2-1.
SOCCER
EUROPA LEAGUE: Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone was banned by UEFA from contact with his team inside the stadium at the Europa League final.
UEFA said its disciplinary panel imposed a four-game suspension for Simeone’s conduct at Arsenal in the semifinal first leg last week.
Simeone will be barred from the locker room and touchline when Atletico faces Marseille on May 16 in Lyon.
HOCKEY
NHL: Jim Montgomery, a former UMaine player, was introduced as coach of the Dallas Stars, becoming the second head coach in three years to go directly from the college ranks to the NHL.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Cam Atkinson scored the winner for the United States to prevail over Canada 5-4 after a penalty shootout in their opening game of the tournament at Herning, Denmark.
