BOSTON — The University of Southern Maine lost twice on Thursday and was eliminated from the Little East baseball tournament.

The Huskies lost the completion of a suspended game from Wednesday night to Rhode Island College, 7-3.

In the losers’ bracket game, top-seeded UMass-Boston beat the Huskies (27-13), 6-1.

The top-seeded Beacons (32-8) scored three runs in the fifth and six innings.

Chris Fowler, who was 3 for 4, hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and Dave Murphy hit a two-run single and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for the Beacons.

Andrew Olszak homered in the seventh for the Huskies.

Starter JT Morin allowed three hits over seven innings before Joe Maguire and Bobby Tramondozzi each worked an inning to preserve the win. Morin struck out 10.

Reliever Jake Dexter gave up two hits in 32/3 innings for the Huskies.

Nate Vigeant had two hits with three RBI to lead fourth-seeded Rhode Island.

Andrew Hiller homered in the second and singled in a run in the ninth, and Dexter hit an RBI double in the seventh for the Huskies.

The game was suspended Wednesday after dense fog.

SOFTBALL

MAINE 4, BINGHAMTON 3: Alyssa Derrick hit a two-run, walk-off home run as the Black Bears (22-24) avoided elimination in the American East Conference tournament at Vestal, New York.

Laurine German walked with one out, and Meghan Royle flied out to right before Derrick ended it with a shot to center field.

Erika Leonard tied it at 1 with a single to right field in the first, and Royle hit a solo homer in the third.

Binghamton (17-25), which was eliminated from the tournament, went ahead 3-2 in the fifth on a squeeze bunt by Carrie Maniccia and a single by Jessica Rutherford.

The Black Bears will play Stony Brook at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
