VESTAL, N.Y. — Irene Rivera drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie, and Stony Brook eliminated Maine from the America East softball tournament with a 2-0 win Friday afternoon.

Rivera’s walk came on a 14-pitch at-bat, after a double, a hit batter and an infield single loaded the bases for third-seeded Stony Brook (25-21).

Nicole McCarvill added an insurance run in the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Allyssa Malony after leading off with a double.

The fourth-seeded Black Bears (22-25) were held to four hits by Melissa Rahrich. Maine pitcher Kyleigh O’Donnell allowed five hits.

BASEBALL

MAINE SWEEPS ALBANY: Jeremy Pena hit a go-ahead, two-run triple in the eighth inning of the opener, and the Black Bears (16-29) went on to sweep the Great Danes (18-24) by scores of 6-5 and 12-5 in Albany, New York.

Pena’s triple gave Maine a 6-4 lead in the first game.

Hernen Sardinas had three hits, including an RBI double, and Danny Casals hit a solo homer and drove in another run on a sacrifice fly for Maine.

Maine scored six runs in the first inning of the second game, keyed by Sardinas’ RBI double, and RBI singles by Chris Bec and Cody Pasic.

Albany scored five runs in the fourth on homers by Patrick Lagravinese, Marc Wangenstein and Chris Turco.

The Black Bears rallied for four in the sixth on two wild pitches and a two-run double by Bec, who finished with three hits and three RBI.

AMHERST 3, BATES 2: William Murphy came home with the winning run on Max Steinhorn’s single as Amherst (22-12) scored twice in the bottom of the 12th inning to beat Bates (14-18) at Hartford, Connecticut, in the first round of the NESCAC tournament.

The Bobcats, ranked second in NESCAC East, will try to avoid elimination in a morning game on Saturday.

MEN’S TENNIS

BOWDOIN 5, YESHIVA 0: The Polar Bears (20-1) won all three doubles matches and got straight-sets singles victories from Gil Roddy and Luke Tercek to beat the Maccabees (14-6) at Brunswick in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Bowdoin lost a total of only six games in the five matches as it advanced to the regional finals for the fifth straight year. The Polar Bears will play RPI (16-3) at noon Saturday, seeking a third consecutive trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.
