A three-car crash on the Maine Turnpike in Scarborough caused significant traffic delays Tuesday morning.

Cpl. Duane Doughty of the Maine State Police said traffic was slowing near mile 40 northbound in Scarborough around 7:45 a.m. when a driver failed to slow down and rear-ended a car. That car was pushed into another car.

One person was taken to a hospital with what police believed to be possible minor injuries. No citations were issued.

“This is a classic case of following too closely,” Doughty said.

Traffic backed up for at least six miles while first responders dealt with the crash.

The crash scene was cleared by about 9:15 a.m., according to an alert from the Maine Turnpike Authority.
