AUBURN, N.Y. — Zach Quintal doubled in Kyle Heath in the seventh inning Friday night, and the University of Southern Maine went on to a 1-0 victory against Salisbury in the NCAA Division III baseball regionals.

The 24th-ranked Huskies (29-13) are 2-0 in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament and will take on Swarthmore, the other unbeaten team, at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

Ben Lambert pitched 72/3 shutout innings against 10th-ranked Salisbury (34-11), allowing seven hits and striking out nine, throwing 140 pitches.

Jake Dexter pitched the final 11/3 innings, striking out two to get the save.

MAINE, HARTFORD SPLIT: Cody Lawyerson allowed two hits through six innings, allowing one earned run as the Black Bears (18-31, 12-11 America East) beat the Hawks (22-28, 15-7) 3-1 to split at Orono.

T.J. Ward homered for Hartford in the fourth but Jeremy Pena answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning.

With one out in the fifth, Kevin Doody singled for Maine, advanced on a fielder’s choice and, after Cody Pasic walked and Pena was hit by a pitch, Doody scored the tying run on a balk.

Danny Casals delivered a run in the sixth with a double, his second hit of the game.

In the opener, the Hawks scored four runs in the first inning and beat the Black Bears, 9-2.

Jonathan Bennett and Hernen Sardinas had doubles for Maine.
