Bryson DeChambeau made birdies on two of the toughest holes for a 6-under 66 at Dublin, Ohio, to take a one-shot lead into a final round at the Memorial that features Tiger Woods in contention in the event for the first time in six years.

Woods let another great round get away by missing short putts, had to settle for a 68 and was five shots behind.

DeChambeau missed 3-foot birdie putts on the ninth and 15th holes. But he poured it on at the end to lead by one shot over Patrick Cantlay (66), Kyle Stanley and 19-year-old Joaquin Niemann of Chile. Stanley and Niemann played in the last group, and each shot 70.

LPGA: Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand turned a three-shot deficit into a four-shot lead by shooting a 5-under 67 at the U.S. Women’s Open at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, Alabama. Sara Jane Smith of Australia shot a 74 in the third round and didn’t make a birdie to fall into second place.

SEA DOGS: Jantzen Witte drove in five runs and the visiting Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Harrisburg Senators, 14-5.

The Sea Dogs (19-35) scored five runs in the fourth inning to go ahead 8-0. Witte hit a two-run single in the inning and added a three-run homer in the ninth.

ARENA FOOTBALL

MAINE MAMMOTHS: Sean Brackett tossed seven touchdown passes as the Massachusetts Pirates defeated the Maine Mammoths 52-37 at Portland.

Jonathan Bane passed for five touchdowns for the Mammoths (1-6) against the Pirates (6-3).

U.S. MEN: Alan Judge scored on a left-footed shot in the 90th minute as Ireland rallied in the second half for a 2-1 win over the United States at Dublin in an exhibition between nations that failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Bobby Wood put the U.S. ahead in first-half stoppage time, but goalkeeper Bill Hamid’s error led to a tying goal by Graham Burke early in the second half.

MLS: Teal Bunbury scored his eighth goal of the season in the 78th minute off Cristian Penilla’s cross to send New England past New York 2-1 at Foxborough, Massachusetts.

AUTO RACING

NASCAR: Kyle Busch romped again, overcoming a penalty that dropped him to the rear of the field as he won the Xfinity Series race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, for his 189th career victory.

Busch who scaled back his schedule in the second-tier series, won for the first time in four races this season. He won for the 92nd time in Xfinity to add to his series record.

INDYCAR: Scott Dixon raced to his first series victory of the year, outlasting Ryan Hunter-Reay by 1.8 seconds at Belle Isle, Michigan.

BASKETBALL

NBA: Golden State guard Klay Thompson said he expects to play in Game 2 of the finals after twisting his left ankle in a fall in Game 1.
