Pat Gallant-Charette, 67, of Westbrook swam around Manhattan Island on June 30 to become the oldest person to complete the triple crown of open-water swimming.

At age 60 in 2011, Gallant-Charette covered 20.2 miles across the Catalina Channel off Southern California and at 66 in 2017 she swam 20.9 miles across the English Channel.

The 28.5-mile circumnavigation of Manhattan Island took her 10 hours and 53 minutes. Gallant-Charette is one of only three women aged 60 or older to swim completely around the island.
