As an immigrant engineer with foreign credentials, I could empathize with the panelists at the recent Startup Maine conference who described how intimidating it can be for us to seek professional-level work in Maine (June 22).

When I arrived in Maine, I was fortunate enough to meet recruiters like Stefanie Trice Gill at IntWork (who was quoted in the Press Herald story): She not only introduced me to employers and helped me navigate cultural differences but also connected me with agencies like Goodwill Workforce, where I was able to do a paid internship. I have now been employed as an engineer in Maine for over two years. Sometimes all it takes is the right connection!
