I am writing to express how upset I am with the current state of affairs in our country. I feel strongly we have lost so much ground since the last presidential election and that our democracy is beginning to unravel. This makes me sad, angry and frustrated. This is not the country I know and love as a United States citizen.

I feel like we are losing any respect for the rule of law and the institutional processes and procedures that have been in place for decades, if not longer. What has happened to compromise? Working across party lines? Why was either party allowed to change the rules of the Senate, leaving us in the situation we are in now?

I do not feel like this is a welcoming country anymore. The United States of America is a nation of immigrants. My relatives came from England, Ireland, Scotland and France. We should not be pushing people out of our country. We don’t have enough people trained to fill the jobs we have now. Immigrants enrich our country in so many ways. They make us more diverse as a nation and bring many talents and skills.
