WESTFIELD, Mass. — Brady Coyne pitched a five-hitter to lead Greater Portland to the Babe Ruth New England championship in the 13-year-old division with a 3-1 victory Sunday over Milton, Massachusetts.

Greater Portland advances to the World Series in Arkansas starting Aug. 9.

Bob Wing and Andrew Heffernan each had an RBI, as Johnny Poole and Andrew Brewer scored to give Greater Portland a 2-0 lead after two innings. Richard Gilboy scored in the third inning on a dropped fly ball.

AMERICAN LEGION

COASTAL LANDSCAPE 8, PASTIME 3: Barbecue Yee laced a pair of two-run doubles while powering Coastal Landscape of Portland to a winners’ bracket victory in the state tournament in Bangor.

Yee finished with three hits. Griffin Watson added four hits and three runs scored, and Dylan Francoeur had three hits and two RBI.

YANKEE FORD 10, AUGUSTA 2: Brogan McDonald lifted a sacrifice fly and hit a two-run single as Yankee Ford of South Portland eliminated Augusta.

Poole, Riley Hasson and Zack Johnson each scored twice for Yankee Ford, and four pitchers combined on a four-hitter.

LITTLE LEAGUE

SOUTH PORTLAND AMERICAN 4, SACO 2: South Portland scored three runs in the first inning and held on to win the Little League state championship in the 8-10 division, at Old Town.

South Portland grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning on two walks, an RBI single by Parker Reny, an error and an RBI groundout by Kason Lewis, the added an unearned run in the fourth.

Hudson Iacuessa and Ben Morin combined on an eight-hitter for South Portland, with Morin getting the last four outs after Saco scored twice in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk to Noah Fullerton and a wild pitch.

South Portland advances to the Eastern Regional in Cranston, Rhode Island, starting Aug. 4.

EMPIRE LEAGUE

SURGE SPLIT WITH BUCKS: Joshua Martinez drove in three runs while leading the New York Bucks (22-11) to an 8-7 win over the Old Orchard Beach Surge (15-18) in Plattsburgh, New York.

Earlier, Tony Holton doubled home the go-ahead run as Old Orchard scored four run in the seventh inning for a 7-3 victory in the completion of Saturday’s game, which was suspended in the fourth inning because of rain.

In Sunday’s second game, Nick McHugh rapped a two-run single as Old Orchard overcame an early 2-0 deficit with four runs in the top of the fourth.

But the Bucks answered with four runs in the bottom half, as Dalton Hughes hit an RBI double and Abel Media added a two-run single.

Martinez singled home two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 8-4.

The Surge took advantage of three walks, a wild pitch and an RBI double by Quinn Tiernan to pull within one in the seventh inning.
