Robert Gouin Jr.

ALFRED – A 37-year-old Sanford man is in custody at York County Jail following his conviction last week of the possession of child pornography.

A jury convicted Robert Gouin Jr. of two counts of possession of sexually explicit material following a one-day trial on Oct. 24 at York County Superior Court.

Gouin was taken into custody in October 2016 by members of the Maine State Police computer crimes unit after Sanford Police and federal Department of Homeland Security searched his Emery Street apartment. Saco Police provided technical assistance.

Following the arrest, Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said that the state’s computer crimes unit received a tip, which led to the search and Gouin’s subsequent apprehension.

An initial examination of Gouin’s electronic equipment showed dozens of images and videos of child porn, said York County District Attorney Kathryn Slattery in a statement.

Slattery said Gouin is expected to be sentenced within the next several months.

Possession of sexually explicit material is a Class C crime, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
