ALFRED – York County Commissioners accepted the resignation of longtime Deputy Register of Deeds Claude Dube with regret Thursday evening and temporarily appointed the incoming York County Register of Deeds, Nancy Hammond, as deputy in his stead.

Dube, who has been an employee of York County government for nearly 30 years, will stay on in an advisory capacity as his situation permits, said Human Resources Director Linda Corliss.

Commissioner Richard Clark said Dube was tendering his resignation for health reasons.

“We regretfully accept his resignation,” said Clark. “He has close to 30 years of service that we are very grateful for.”

Hammond won the open seat for York County Register of Deeds in the Nov. 6 election after the current register Debra Anderson, who has been ill, decided to retire and not seek another term.

County Manager Greg Zinser on Thursday said Hammond will be in the office a couple of days a week, functioning as the deputy, until Jan. 1. Hammond was nominated for the deputy position by Anderson.

The resignation and appointment became effective on Friday.
