OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The town of Old Orchard Beach is looking for a new deputy fire chief.
Rich Kindelan came on board as the town’s deputy fire chief in November 2017, after the town of Old Orchard Beach added the new position of deputy fire chief.
Kindelan has left to take on the position of deputy fire chief in the neighboring town of Scarborough, according to The Forecaster.
Kindelan began his new post in Scarborough on Dec. 31 to work with outgoing Scarborough Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Attardo Jr. for a few days before Attardo retires on Jan. 4, according to The Forecaster.
The town of Old Orchard Beach has posted a job advertisement for the deputy fire chief position on the Maine Municipal Association website.
According to the job posting, the deputy fire chief position is “a responsible administrative, supervisory and technical position focusing on firefighting, fire prevention and rescue activities of the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department.”
The deputy fire chief works directly under the supervision of the fire chief, though must exercise independent judgement in daily situations.
The deputy fire chief responds to and takes command at major fires and hazardous incidents, implements standard operating procedures for the department, and coordinates and oversees trainings according to the job listing.
The deputy fire chief also performs inspections and serves as the town infectious control officer, emergency management director, and in cases of arson as the town fire inspector.
The annual salary range for the position is listed as between $70,000 and $80,000. The job advertisement will be posted until Jan. 26
