GORHAM — The suspect in an armed robbery last month at the Bimbo Bakery in Gorham was taken into custody on New Year’s Eve in York County.

Detective Sgt. Dan Young of the Gorham Police Department said in a press release that at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 31 U.S. marshals and the Maine Violent Offender Task Force apprehended Erroll D. Gethers in Biddeford. Gethers was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland on charges of armed robbery and violation conditions of release.

Gethers, 56, was wanted on a warrant as the suspect in the armed robbery on Dec. 13 at the bakery, also known as Freihofers/Nissen Bakery Outlet, 587 Main St. Police said the suspect displayed a handgun in the bakery and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Gethers was listed Wednesday on the confined inmate list at the jail.
