WESTBROOK — Jean-Paul Bernier, 82, passed away after a long illness on Jan. 13, 2019.

He was born in Biddeford, a son of Romeo and Cordelia (Trottier) Bernier, on Sept. 24, 1936.

Paul graduated from St. Francis High School in the Class of 1954. Paul married his loving wife, Angela (Rondeau) on July 13, 1957. He was self-employed as an electrical contractor for many years. He built his home on the Methodist Road with help from family and friends, and lived there until November of 2018. Paul enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends over the years at his pool.

He had a great love for his two German Shepherds, Baron and Max. He was a member of the Westbrook Kiwanis Club, and enjoyed the extensive traveling both he and Angela did together through the years. For the past two years, Paul looked forward to the weekly sermons by Scott and Larry as well as the music at Eastpoint Christian Church in South Portland.

Paul had an infectious smile and was loved by many friends.

He is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Angela Bernier; daughter, Theresa Stuart (who has helped care for him the past two years) and her husband, Jon; a granddaughter, Lyndsay Stuart; sisters, Claudette Young and her husband, Royce, Charlotte Pinard, and Joan Jordan and her husband, Walter; many nieces and nephews; life long friend, Penny Weir; and his loving extended family, Terry, Jim, Bobby, and Wesley Fletcher as well as their children whom he loved as his own.

He was predeceased by: two sons, Raymond and Robert; and his best friend, Stan Weir.

Paul’s family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Christian Thomas and the staff at New England Cancer Center and Hospice of Southern Maine for their excellent care of Paul.

Per Paul’s request, no services will be held at this time. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
