Beegle

The Morris Farm and Chewonki will co-convene the 5th Annual Lincoln County Food Security Forum at Chewonki on March 2.  Donna Beegle, a public speaker, author and national poverty expert will deliver the keynote address. 

Beegle grew up in generational migrant-labor poverty and left school at 15 to get married and start a family. At 25, she found herself with two children, no husband, little education, and few marketable job skills. Within 10 years, she obtained her GED and advance through to a doctoral degree in educational leadership. A 

Beegle is the Co-Founder and President of Communication Across Barriers.  The mission of this Oregon-based company, established in 1989 with her mentor Drob Fulford, is to help communities “fight poverty, not those who live in it.”  

The theme to this year forum is Exploring Short and Long-term Solutions to Food Insecurity.  Sessions will focus on the spectrum of program efforts: meeting immediate needs for food, educating children and adults and changing food habits, empowering those who face food security issues, and addressing systemic barriers to food security.
