LIMINGTON — A man who saw a suspicious vehicle near his Limington home Thursday night went outside his house to investigate and was shot by someone wearing a mask.

“Shots were fired and struck the victim several times,” said York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. in a statement.

King said the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he remained as of 11 a.m. Friday.

“(The) preliminary investigation determined that the man was home with his wife and observed a suspicious vehicle in the area,” King said. “He went outside to investigate and heard somebody in the wooded area behind his house. He walked to the wood line with his flashlight and was confronted by an individual wearing a mask.”

King said that is when the shots were fired, and the man was struck. The victim’s wife heard the shots, found her husband outside and called police.

Sheriff’s deputies answering the call summoned assistance from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.
