BATH — Pizza and cookies, local trivia, and a chance to win Gordy the Sloth: “The Return of So You Think you Know Bath” has it all.

Back after a three-year hiatus, the game show will be held at Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington St., on Saturday, May 4. The 5:30-9 p.m. event will have three teams – composed of nonprofit organization members, teachers, merchants and other local people – competing in three rounds, with the top finishers facing off in a final round.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry and Cathy Matero of David Matero Architecture will co-host the show; $35 tickets can be purchased at visitbath.com, the Main Street Bath office (15 Commercial St.), Now You’re Cooking (49 Front St.), House of Logan (66 Front St.), and J’Adore Consignment (190 Front St.).

Sally Johnstone, vice president of the Main Street Bath board and chairwoman of its Economic Vitality Committee, is coordinating the event with Anita Demetropoulos of Island Treasure Toys and Vicki Sprague of RE/MAX Riverside.

“It’s going to be the best damn party,” Johnstone said with exuberance on April 17. “We’re going to have a popcorn machine. It is going to be so much fun. … It’s the perfect way to kick off May.”

The questions can be “pretty sneaky,” she added. “It’s like a picture of something that you see every day, and you have no idea what it is until they reveal it.”

All proceeds will benefit Main Street Bath; Johnstone hopes to raise $10,000, a figure nearly met in prior years.

“That goes a long way” toward promoting and preserving Bath’s historic downtown, she said. “We leverage our dollars at Main Street like you wouldn’t believe.”

The organization launched “So You Think You Know Bath” in 2007, a nod to the 1970s TV show “So You Think You Know Maine.” The event sold out each year, despite expanding to a larger venue, and bowed out in 2016.

“Front Street Feud” was held in its place the past two years, but demand was strong for its predecessor to return, even for one last round. And Main Street is responding accordingly.

“We challenged everybody to come up with something fantabulous,” Johnstone said.

There’ll be a “People’s Choice” pizza competition and “Cookie Master of Bath” contest, a silent auction, and a raffle for a pair of $2,100 diamond rings donated by Springer’s Jewelers.

“The interesting twist to the diamond raffle is that your $25 raffle ticket is actually a pair of cubic zirconia earrings,” Johnstone noted.

One of the 100 pairs available has a secret mark that indicates they are the winning pair, and raffle buyers can stop by Springer’s after May 4 to learn if they’ve hit the jackpot. The “tickets” can be purchased at Springer’s (76 Front St.), Lisa Marie’s Made in Maine (170 Front St.), and at the event.

And then of course, there’s Gordy the Sloth – giant, cuddly, and donated by Island Treasure Toys. Raffle tickets for the stuffed animal are available for $5 each, or four for $20, before the event at the 70 Front St. toy shop.

“This thing is like human-size,” Johnstone said. “It’s super cute.”
