Old Orchard Beach police responded to a call around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday reporting that a woman operating a golf cart at the Wagon Wheel RV Resort and Campground at 3 Old Orchard Road drove just outside the entrance and struck the side of a local transit bus, said Captain David Hemingway.

The woman driving the golf cart, Maureen Olsen, 55, of North Yarmouth, was reportedly thrown from the golf cart, said Hemingway.

Olsen was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, said Hemingway. Olsen was reportedly waiting for someone at the front entrance of the campground when she went out into the roadway, said Hemingway.

According to state law, the “operating” in operating under the influence, refers to “operating or attempting to operate a motor vehicle.”

State law defines golf carts as a type of motor vehicles designed for operation on a golf course or sporting or recreational purposes and not capable of going more than 20 miles per hour.
