BREWER—Class B Track States unfolded at Brewer High School on Saturday, June 1, and local schools put in a good showing.

On the boys side of things, York took the State crown with 63.33 points. Gray-New Gloucester finished near the back of the pack, taking 26th (of 30) with five points. The program’s contingent was fairly small, but they did perform admirably: Jacob MacCallum took sixth in the 110 Hurdles in 16.76 seconds (Zach Beaton of Hermon won the event, in 14.85 seconds); he also took eighth in the Javelin (132-00; Jack Jowett of Erskine won at 167-05) and fifth in the Discus (127-06; Jacob McCluskey, Brewer, 150-09). Meanwhile, Kaleb Frey finished eighth in the same event (123-11).

For Lake Region, the quartet of Cam Meserve, Matt Mayo, Jeff McCubrey and Nate Casali took 10th in the 4×800, in a time of 9:00.68. (Greely won the race in 8:24.76.) Casali claimed 10th in the 800 (in 2:06.06; Matt Todd of Greely won the event in 2:00.52).

Over on the girls side: Brewer won the team competition at 84 points. G-NG trailed in 15th with 17 points and Lake Region secured a share of 17th with eight points. 27 teams competed.

Patriot Madison Post finished seventh in the 100 (in 13.18; Junne Robertson-McIntire of Belfast won the event, in 12.61). Post also took ninth in the 200 (in 27.70; Robertson-McIntire won here as well, in 26.32). Teammate Erica Schlichting claimed third in the 800 (in 2:27.09; Lexi Brent, York, 2:23.47), and Sarah Fecteau finished ninth in the High Jump (at 4-08.00; Gracie Sanborn, Old Town, 5-00.00).

In the Javelin, Megan Reynolds took fourth (99-09; Ashley Tanguay, Brewer, 123-11), and Grace Begin took eighth (92-7). Zoe Barnes, also a thrower, claimed fourth in the Discus (100-04; Emma Hargreaves, Old Told, 108-01), as well as sixth in the Shot Put (33-08.50; Hargreaves, 38-10.50).

The Lady Lakers’ Madison Martin came in 10th in the 1600 Racewalk (9:26.92; Izabelle Trefts of Old Town came in first, beating the previous state record by more than 10 seconds, at 7:26.07). Finally, Leah Plummer took second in the 400 (1:01.73; Erin O’Donnell, York, took first in 1:00.29); Plummer also took 10th in the 200 (28.07; Robertson-McIntire won, 26.32).
