HARPSWELL — Farmers Joe and Laura Grady will be partnering with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay on Saturday, June 15, for a herding demonstration with their skilled border collie.

The tour will begin at 10 a.m. at Two Coves Farm, 90 Neil’s Point Road, where guests will learn about grass production and environmental sustainability. This is typically done by moving cows, sheep, pigs, chickens and turkeys to fresh pasture every other day. By doing this, the soil is stimulated, refreshed and fertilized and the animals are given a nutritious and diverse diet.

At 10:30 a.m., Joe Grady will demonstrate how canine skills are utilized to move animals from one place to another.

The event is part of the Friends of Merrymeeting Bay’s Summer Outside! free community event series, which encourages the preservation, protection and improvement of the ecosystems through education, research and advocacy.
