TOPSHAM — The Frank J. Wood Bridge between Topsham and Brunswick will be closed to Topsham-bound traffic Tuesday due to a bridge inspection.

The bridge carries U.S. Route 201 and Maine Route 24B traffic over the Androscoggin River. Traffic headed from Brunswick to Topsham will be rerouted using Route 1 and Route 196, according to the Maine Department of Transportation. Traffic headed from Topsham to Brunswick will still be allowed to pass over the bridged. The inspection will start at around 8 a.m. and end around 6 or 7 p.m.

“The current inspection of the Frank J. Wood Bridge is a routine safety inspection,” said Joyce Taylor, the transportation department’s chief engineer. “We inspect this bridge every two years; its last inspection was in September 2017. MaineDOT bridge engineers have been planning the current work for months.”
