The society will recognize donors on its website, in its newsletter and in other public areas.

Now that November is here and the holidays are approaching, the South Portland Historical Society begins its Annual Fund Drive.

As you may be aware, the historical society is a nonprofit and depends on the support of the community in order to do the work that it does. The society brings historical education to people of all ages through its museum in Bug Light Park and its Online Museum and Research Library.

We hope that you also enjoy the weekly Sentry column where we feature historic photographs of South Portland and where we seek out the public’s help with our ongoing research.

We are blessed to have such a high level of service offered through our local historical society in South Portland.

This is thanks in part to the large family of volunteers who make the day-to-day operation of our museum a reality, but there are still many expenses to operating a museum and maintaining a climate-controlled facility — we need public support in order to make it happen.

The society holds its annual appeal in November and December each year, as we look ahead to several months of winter heating bills. Heating our building is a necessity to ensure that the treasured pieces of history in our archives are preserved for future generations.

Please consider a donation to our annual fund today. Your donation will let us know that you appreciate what we do and will help us continue preserving and exhibiting history in the coming year.

Please complete this form and mail with your tax-deductible donation to South Portland Historical Society, 55 Bug Light Park, South Portland, ME 04106. For donations by credit card, call 767-7299. The society is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization.

Kathryn Onos DiPhilippo is executive director of the South Portland Historical Society.
